In 2011, a Korean netizen posted on an online forum alleging that the game "DDTank" had plagiarized the Korean game "Taan Online." While the article may or may not have gone viral or sparked any debates, I thought it would be interesting to translate some of the important points just for archival reasons as the original post is no longer available as far as I can see.
Similarities between Taan Online and DDTank
- Similar logos: The logos of both games feature a stylized bullet and very similar colors. The only difference is the text of the logos.
- Similar character designs: The character designs in the two games are very similar, down to the facial expressions and clothing.
- Similar gameplay: The gameplay of the two games is also very similar. Both games are turn-based games, and they feature similar maps, items, and power-ups.
- Similar music: The music in the two games is also very similar. The main theme of "DDTank" sounds almost identical to the main theme of "Taan Online."
Response from the developers of DDTank
The developers of "DDTank" denied the allegations of plagiarism, claiming that they had developed the game independently. They also pointed out that there are many other turn-based games with a similar style on the market, and that it is therefore not surprising that there are some similarities between "DDTank" and other games.
Opinion and Conclusion
In my opinion, there is very clear plagiarism, the similarities between the two games are certainly striking. It is possible that the developers of "DDTank" were simply inspired by "Taan Online," but it is also possible that they deliberately copied elements of the game.

The Original Post
해당되는 게임은 약 3 년전 EA에 합병된 J2M Soft의 "슈팅대전 탄"이다.
이 게임은 지난 3년 전 (주)NHN의 게임포털 한게임을 통해 서비스되었다.
하지만, 위에서 말했듯이 개발사가 EA에 넘어감으로써 서비스는 중단된 상태이다.
그러나, 최근 인터넷 검색 중 알게된 사실이 있으니,
그 게임이 외국에서 포맷이 변경된 채 서비스 중이라는 것이다.
게임에서의 첫 얼굴인 로고에서도 상당한 표절의 냄새가 풍긴다.
하지만, 로고 외에도 다양한 요소들이 비슷하여 의혹을 증폭시키고 있다.
먼저, 캐릭터 생성 화면을 살펴보자.

좌측의 거대한 캐릭터 말고 옆에 아담한 캐릭터를 비교해보자.
그래…. ( 후…. ) 도트는 뭐 똑같다치자. 잘 따라 그렸다. 대단하다. 상당히 비슷하다.
그래, 게임스타일이 비슷하면 뭐, 도트 따위는 똑같을 수도 있지….
눈을 복붙신공을 써서 쓴 건지는 몰라도 엄청 비슷하다.
* Enter Game의 버튼과 OK!!의 버튼도 잘 보면 비슷하다.
그래, 그래픽 비슷한 건 우리가 조금 이해해보도록 하자.
근데, 가요계에서나 가끔 일어나는 표절의혹이 왜 게임음악에서 나타나는 것이냐!

<동영상 1. 위쪽이 서비스 종료 직전까지의 Taan 테마 / 아래쪽이 표절의혹 게임의 테마 >
진짜 그 게임의 테마 듣는 순간, 소름 끼치는 사람 몇몇 있을 것이다.
음계만 살짝 바꿨을 뿐이지, 박자는 물론 악기의 종류, 악기가 사용되는 타이밍까지 비슷한 것을 넘어 똑같다.
동영상 싱크 조절 스킬이 있는 분은 한번 두 곡의 싱크를 똑같이 조절해서 들어보는 것도 좋다.
있는 듯하지만 느껴지지 않는 어색함은 기본이며, 두 곡이 동시에 시작해서 동시에 끝나는 기적을 느낄 수 있을 것이다.
* EA와의 공식적인 거래를 통해 제작된 게임이면 Original Sound Track을 전달받아 사용했겠지만,
이렇게 음악을 개판으로 편곡해놓고 자연스럽게 이끌어가려는 모습을 보면 이건 표절이다.

<동영상 2. 표절의혹 게임 한 판 >
방식과 그래픽, 음악은 비슷해도 단독형 게임이었으면 추모작 차원에서 이해했겠지만, 공교롭게도 실시간 네트워크 웹 게임이다.
( 더블파이어, 트리플파이어와 치밀어오르는 분노를 곁들여 게임 한 판했다. )
* 더군다나 효과음까지 똑같으면 이건 답이 확실히 된 것이다. 명백한 표절작이다.
* 녹화 바로 전 튜토리얼 맵에서도 탄의 음악은 어김없이 나왔다.
* 근데, 라그나로크 배경음악은 또 왜 나오는거냐.. -_-
* 이번에도 적당하게 멋대로 편곡한 승리세레모니 음악은 더욱 더 좌절감을 느끼게 했다.

아마 짝퉁보단 다른 걸 찾으라면 좀 더 세부적인 인터페이스나 이펙트의 프레임 값이 더 크다는 것일까...?
* 게임의 형식 자체는 모방해도 괜찮다. 이미 턴제 슈팅게임은 널리고 널렸으니까,
다만 내가 분노하는 이유는 서비스 유무를 떠나 우리나라 게임업계에 종사하는 사람들이
최소 1년은 투자해서 만들었을 이 컨텐츠들를 누군가가 무단으로 도용, 변조해서 사용했다는 점이다.
( 필자가 좋아했던 게임이라서 더 분노한 건 더더욱 중요한 이유(?)고 )
